What is EU AI Pinboard?

Vision

Europe builds serious AI, but it's scattered across dozens of countries, buried under hype, and drowned out by API wrappers calling themselves "AI startups." EU AI Pinboard cuts through the noise.

This is a hand-curated map of European AI startups that do real technical work: training their own models, publishing original research, or building deep-tech that doesn't exist without them. No AI-washing. No wrappers. No marketing labels.

Admission Criteria

A startup is featured only if it meets all of the following:

  1. European headquarters. EU27, UK, Switzerland, or Norway. Non-EU companies are clearly marked.
  2. AI as core business. At least half the product relies on proprietary ML/DL research or models or AI infrastructure, not a thin layer on top of someone else's API.
  3. Verifiable technical substance. At least one of: published papers, an active GitHub with original contributions, a technical blog with real depth, or backing from recognized deep-tech investors.
  4. Genuine innovation. Foundational work (LLMs, diffusion, agents), deep verticals (biotech, defense, quantum, robotics, energy), or sovereign approaches (GDPR-native, on-prem, open-weight).
  5. Not a marketing label. If the only "AI" is a chatbot on the landing page, it doesn't belong here.

How Curation Works

EU AI Pinboard is maintained by a single curator. Every startup is personally reviewed against the criteria above. The goal is quality over quantity.
